2015 AKSA Conference - Roundtables

올해 시카고에서 8월21일, 2시부터 진행되는 미니컨퍼런스에 초청합니다!
올해의 주제는 “한국정치와 노동 (Labor Politics in South Korea)”입니다. 한국사회학회 회장님이신 김무경 교수님의 기조말씀을 시작으로, 신광영, 이윤경, 이철승 교수님께서 연구발표를 해 주시기로 하셨습니다.
곧 이어, 4시부터 5시30분까지 진행되는 라운드 테이블 발표는, 연구분야 별로 7개의 테이블을 마련하여, 각 분야에서 활발하게 연구를 진행중이신 교수님들과 학생분들이 연구에 대해 논의하고, 전문화를 추구하며, 관련 분야에 계신분들과 네트웤을 구축하는 기회로 만들려고 합니다.
구체적으로 라운드 테이블은 두 가지 주제로 진행됩니다. 우선 각자 5분 정도 자신의 프로젝트/논문을 발표하고 선생님들이 피드백을 주고 논의합니다. 두 번째로 해당 분야의 논문 Publication과 CV 작성 방법에 대해서 논의합니다. 이후 다른 Professionalization(연구계획서 작성, 잡마켓 요령 등)에 대해서도 질의 및 응답의 시간을 가질 예정입니다.
저녁 식사 자리(Tozi Restaurant)도 라운드 테이블에 같이 앉았던 팀 별로 앉아 관심분야별로 좀 더 강화된 Networking이 가능하도록 하고자 합니다. 현재 계획하고 있는 라운드 테이블 세션은 잠정적으로 아래와 같습니다.

- 관심있는 라운드 테이블을 지정해 주시고, 라운드 테이블에서 현재 진행하고 있는 연구에 대해서 5분 정도 발표할 수 있는지 여부를 알려주십시오.
- 발표를 하지 않더라도 전문화추구와 네트워 구축이 라운드 테이블에 따라 진행되기에, 라운드 테이블 세션을 신청 하셔야 합니다.
- 저녁 식사에만 올 예정인 경우, 저녁 식사만 참석가능하다고 신청하고, 이 경우에도 저녁 식사 seating이 라운드 테이블 별로 이루어질 것이기에 관심 분야를 알려주셔야 합니다.
- 자신의 관심 분야에 적절한 라운드 테이블이 없을 경우 관심 분야를 알려주십시오.
현재 교원으로 재적 중인 선생님들은 참가 신청과 더불어 라운드 테이블에서 멘토로 참여해주실 수 있는지 여부를 저희에게 알려주시기 부탁드립니다.

Dear Association of Korean Sociologists in America (AKSA) members,
Greetings! We extend our invitations to our 2015 mini-conference in Chicago on August 21, 2pm (Hilton Chicago Lake Ontario Room - 8th Floor)!
The theme of the 2015 mini-conference is Politics and Labors in Korea. We will start with the opening remark from Professor Moo-Kyung Kim, the president of the Korean Sociological Association; and we will follow with research presentations by Professors Kwang-Yeong Shin, Yoonkyung Lee, and Cheol-Sung Lee.
After the research presentations, we will host a roundtable event from 4pm to 5:30pm. The roundtable presentations will consist of seven research areas and two professors in each research area will facilitate presentations, discussions, and professionalization. This will be a great opportunity for scholars in similar areas to exchange scholarly discussions and network. The roundtable event will consists of two components: first, you are encouraged to discuss your own project(s) to receive feedback and discussion; second, we will have discussions and Q&A on professionalization-related topics including publication, CV and others (e.g., job market).
The conference will end with dinner at Tozi restaurant (http://tozibbq.com/). Extending from the roundtable event, we will arrange seating by research area to facilitate extended discussion and networking. The list of tentative roundtable sections are:

Even if you wish to not give a 5-minute presentation of your own research or if you are participating in dinner only, you will still need to give your preference for roundtables, so we could organize accordingly. If we do not have any roundtables that are suitable to you, please send us your research area of interest.
If you are faculty, in addition to your participation and preference for roundtable, please let us know whether you would be willing to serve as a mentor for roundtables.
