2015 AKSA Conference

AKSA is planning its annual mini-conference on August 21 Friday, 2015, 2:30PM-6:30PM (a day before the ASA) at the same venue of ASA. The theme of this year's conference is "Labor and Politics in South Korea." Kwang-Yeong Shin (JoongAng University), Yoonkyung Lee (SUNY Binghamton), and Cheol-Sung Lee (Chicago) will discuss labor and politics in South Korea in the plenary session. On top of the plenary session, we have a paper award competition, roundtable sessions, and a conference dinner. Please consider participating in (1) the annual graduate student paper competition; (2) the roundtable presentation; and (3) the conference dinner. (1) Graduate Student Paper Competition
Eligibility: Graduate student members of the AKSA. Students who are not currently a member of AKSA can join AKSA now and nominate their papers. Graduate students in Korea, the US, Canada, and other parts of the world are welcome to submit their papers.
Topic: Korea and/or Ethnic Koreans (broadly defined)
The paper should be of publishable quality or has been published in English language journals in 2014/2015.
The graduate student must be the 1st author of the paper.
Submission Deadline: May 20, 2015

(2) Roundtable Presentation This year’s roundtable will be a venue in which graduate students present their papers (in the same format as the ASA roundtables), receive feedback from senior and junior colleagues sharing similar interests, and have informal conversations about professionalization-related issues. If you are interested in presenting your paper in this venue, please send the title and the abstract of your paper to Kangsan Lee (kangsanlee@u.northwestern.edu) by the submission deadline (May 20, 2015). Faculty members and post-docs who are interested in participating in this event as mentors, please email Kangsan Lee (kangsanlee@u.northwestern.edu) by June 30th (Tuesday).
Eligibility: Graduate student members of the AKSA. Students who are coming to ASA from Korea can submit their papers.
Topic: No restrictions (the same paper for ASA is acceptable)

(3) Conference Dinner After the conference, the conference dinner will be served at Tozi. Those who are not interested in the roundtable, but still plan to join us in Chicago, please email AKSA (KoreanSociologists@gmail.com) or Aggie Noah (ajn164@psu.edu).

주제: 한국이나 (해외 거주)한국인에 대한 것
논문은 2014/2015년에 저널에 출간된 논문이나, 그와 동등한 수준을 갖춘 초고여야 하며, 영어로 작성되었어야 합니다.
공동 저작의 경우 대학원생이 첫번째 저자여야 합니다.

(2) 라운드 테이블 올해는 라운드 테이블에서 대학원생들이 자신들의 논문을 간단히 발표하고 AKSA에 속한 관련 전공 교수님들과 함께 토론하는 자리를 가지고자 합니다. 한 시간 논문 발표 세션 후에 저널출간, 학위논문작성, 대학원 생활 등에 대한 Professionalization 세션을 한시간 가질 예정입니다. 관심있으신 대학원생들은 제목과 간단한 요약문을 이강산 선생님(kangsanlee@u.northwestern.edu)에게 5월20일까지 제출해 주십시오. 멘토로 라운드테이블에 참석하기를 원하시는 교수님이나 포닥 선생님들은 6월30일까지 이강산 선생님(kangsanlee@u.northwestern.edu)에게 알려주십시오.
